Charcoal dog portraits

acrylic painting

Lately I have been exploring dog portraits in charcoal and Derwent Artists pencils (the white parts).

This is a commissioned portrait in A3 size. I have never matted anything before and I was a bit nervous and afraid to destroy it. But I watched a good instructional video on Youtube, and I think everything turned out really nice!

The drawings are made on Paint On Gris paper by Clairefontaine. I love it. Because with my acrylics, I alwas start with a grisaille and I always paint it on a light grey canvas. So this is my preferred strategy in general.

I’m satisfied with the results so far! What do you think?
